Mary graduated and earned a Masters degree in
Education from the University of Texas at
Dallas, before coming to California to begin
her County career with the
Assessor’s Office in 1991 as a
Real Estate Appraiser. Mary started out her
appraisal career performing assessments of
single family homes, apartments,
condominiums and commercial/industrial
properties. In 1997, she was promoted to the
position of Real Estate Appraiser Specialist
1 and was assigned to the Possessory
Interest Region where she analyzed and
valued possessory interests in government
properties for assessment purposes.
Mary's current assignment, since 2003,
has been with the Special Investigations
Unit of the Assessor’s Office. She provides
services to the public by coordinating with
various County jurisdictional agencies to
resolve complex property tax issues.
For the past fifteen years, Mary has been
an active member of the International
Association of Assessing Officers (IAAO).
Mary has served on the executive board for
seven years in different capacities and as
the president of the Los Angeles Chapter in
2001. In 2002, Mary served as co-chairperson
on the social committee when the Assessor’s
Office hosted the IAAO’s 64th Annual
International Conference in Los Angeles.
This year, Mary became the Secretary of
the Los Angeles County Asian American
Employees Association, an organization that
assists the Asian employees to become
leaders in the County. As Secretary, Mary
directs communications for the association.
She encourages all employees to join this
dynamic organization and be a part of the
development of the future.
